Italian Cheesesteak Sandwiches are some of the best cheesesteaks you’ll bite into. It has quality shaved steak, roasted red peppers, grilled onions, fresh Mozzarella cheese, red sauce, and parsley. This flavorful recipe will be a family favorite for years to come.
Italian Cheesesteak Sandwiches is a recipe I used to make for the kids out of simple leftovers and staple items in our house. The formula is simple and will have you out of the kitchen quickly! It’s a winning recipe for any occasion, a simple dinner, lunch, or even potlucks and backyard gatherings.
Keep in mind this is not a Philly Cheesesteak, not even close. It’s better tasting, in my opinion, and I love chowing down on a REAL Philly Cheesesteak when visiting the Philly area. Many great Philly restaurants are serving them, but my favorite two are Pat’s and Geno’s. They are the actual original deal.
Have you ever had the pleasure of having an authentic Philly Cheesesteak? If so, I can’t wait for you to try these fantastic Italian Cheesesteak sandwiches!
Let’s talk a little about the ingredients for the Italian Cheesesteak Sandwiches. They are straightforward to locate, and most you will have on hand in your refrigerator and pantry, if not all components, can be found at a local supermarket in a snap.

Italian Deli Rolls- Opt for Italian Deli rolls from the bakery market or a local bakery. Do not use deli rolls from the bread section at the market, as the texture and taste are apples and oranges.
Olive oil– Use authentic olive oil versus vegetable oil, corn, peanut oil, or any other oils to cook your shaved steak and grilled onions.
Pasta Sauce or Pizza sauce – I use a simple homemade pasta sauce of my grandmother’s. I have also used a great homemade pizza sauce from my friend Christina’s blog. If you are in a bind and need a high-quality organic pasta sauce, that is ok.
Shaved Sirloin Steak– You can find this at most markets. If you do not see it in the meat section, ask the staff at the meat counter; they will gladly assist you. Please do not use the overprocessed brand Steak-umm Sliced Steak to make these Italian Cheesesteak Sandwiches. Trust me. You’ll thank me for that tip.
Grilled onions – Use yellow onions for the grilled onions. They have a better flavor for this recipe. Onions matter.
Roasted Red Peppers – I have been known to make roasted peppers for my Italian Cheesesteak Sandwiches. Still, in all honesty, it’s just easier to use excellent quality organic roasted peppers and save some time. I prefer the jarred organic roasted peppers over the tinned brands.
Fresh Mozzarella cheese – This step should not be substituted with shredded or sliced mozzarella cheese. The taste and texture of fresh sliced Mozzarella are just so much more pleasing on this Cheesesteak sandwich.
Fresh Parsley – Use fresh parsley, not dried, as the flavor is much more enticing, and only add the fresh parsley at the very end before serving the Italian cheesesteak sandwiches

- Italian Beef Sandwiches recipe is a go-to family recipe handed down to me by my grandmother. This is the version that the family has made since the late ’30s. This classic Italian beef sandwich comprises juicy shredded roast beef, fried sweet bell peppers, a spicy giardiniera, and provolone on a crusty bread roll.
- The Double Bacon Cheeseburger is one of my all-time childhood favorites to eat during the summer, combining well-seasoned lean beef, smoked peppery thick-sliced bacon, garden fresh juicy vine-ripened red tomatoes, red onions, crisp Romaine lettuce, and Deli sliced White American Cheese, on a soft sesame seed bun.
- Southern Ham Salad and White Bread combine like two peas and a pod. A delicious homemade Southern Ham salad made with sweet honey ham, celery, red onions, hardboiled boiled eggs, and pickles on a thick-sliced, fresh oven-tasting white bread we all have come to love in our house.

This recipe was very impressive. The flavor was great, and my wife and I thought it was fairly simple to make. I didn’t have shaved sirloin, so we just thinly sliced a NY strip steak. It worked out, but I want to make it with the sirloin steak next time.
Good morning Dan!
I’m so glad you and the wife enjoyed it! Have a wonderful day, and thank you!
I made this today—I got the recipe in my news letter and went straight to work. I usually never do that with other bloggers because I want to see what other folks thoughts are on the recipe. This one looked to good to pass up and man it was SUPER DELCIOUS! My husband told me I can make these cheesesteaks any day over the other ones I have found on the net. I felt thrilled! I will be saving this bad baby forever!
Oh my gosh, thank you so much! Yahia You just made my day. I literally just posted this recipe today! Thank you for posting such awesome feedback, and tell your husband thank you as well!
