Southern-style Bacon wrapped Jalapeño Poppers aren’t the ordinary old Jalapeño Poppers that you’ll find at your local watering hole or Bar. Grill, these deliciously spicy, smoky Jalapeño peppers have been hollowed out, then filled to the brim with cream cheese that has been seasoned with Cajun seasoning then wrapped in thick slices bacon and grilled to perfection on the Bbq.

If you loved the original-style Jalapeño Poppers, these Southern-style Bacon wrapped Jalapeño Poppers are going to blow your mind as soon as you pop one in your mouth; you’re going to wonder why you ever settled for merely serving those breaded and fried Jalapeño Poppers all these years for appetizers. They pretty much remind me of an Americanized spicier version of Chiles Rellenos you can find served in most Mexican restaurants. Tasty sure, but not considered in my book to be damn delicious like Southern-style Bacon wrapped Jalapeño Poppers.

The first thing I want to talk about is the importance of understanding that the heat of this pepper is in the seeds and membranes of the pepper so you might want to carefully hollow out your Jalapeño peppers carefully and not leave behind any seeds or membranes unless you and your dinner guests like spicy hot foods; trust me on this one. I also want to rinse my hollowed Jalapeño out and re-scrape to make sure I’m not going to light up and unsuspecting guests.

They’re readily available in most markets or vegetable stands and have a sophisticated yet sweet flavor when seeds and membranes are removed, and the peppers are cooked.

Tips on how to handle Jalapeno peppers

  1. Jalapeno peppers have potent oils that can burn your skin and eyes. Avoid direct contact with them as much as possible. When working with fresh chiles, wear rubber gloves or disposable plastic gloves.
  2. If your hands do happen to touch the oils, wash hands in cold water and mild soup. Do not use hot water as it may open the pores and cause more burning than necessary.
  3. If you get some of the oils in your eyes, flush them with cold water only.
  4. The oils from the peppers can also transfer to your knives and cutting surfaces, so wash all knives, cutting boards,  and surfaces with warm soapy water afterward to prevent the oils from moving to other foods or even skin.

You did a beautiful job with these! I love that you got the bacon crispy. Lots of recipes the bacon is barely cooked. Amazing.

Thanks, Patty, the secret is cooking them on the grill with low heat. It takes longer but it is well worth it.
